Western Cape Model
Boat Club

Where Model Boating Enthusiasts Come Together!

We are a passionate group of marine modeling enthusiasts based in and around Cape Town, South Africa.

Our Club provides a supportive environment for individuals who share an interest in model boat construction and/or sailing, offering a space to practice, learn, and enjoy the hobby together. We welcome newcomers of all experience levels, especially novices, as they are key to the growth and evolution of the hobby. Experienced members are always eager to share their knowledge and offer guidance.

The Club is divided into three main disciplines: Sailing, Scale Models and Speedboats.

SPEEDBOATS

The speedboats division has seen less activity in recent years. Still, the Club welcomes renewed interest—note that only electric-driven models with minimal noise are allowed at Sonstraal Dam to avoid disturbing nearby residents. However, other venues may offer more flexibility.

SCALE MODELS

The goal is to build and sail miniature replicas of real-life vessels—like tugs, fishing boats, sailboats, submarines, and naval ships—with activities ranging from tug towing and formation sailing to casual cruising and showcasing craftsmanship; check the Calendar for upcoming scale days, or contact us for more information!

SAILING

The Club embraces a wide range of model yachts, from scale wind-driven replicas to certified racing classes like the International One Metre (IOM), with members sailing various designs in a spirit of relaxed competition that values camaraderie, sportsmanship, and developing expertise over intense rivalry.
